Therapeutic Massage (Abhyanga)
A synchronized full body massage performed by two therapists using medicated herbal oil selected according to the body type & health problems. The massage is followed by a steam bath and a hot shower. The treatment brings about improved physical consistency, induces deep relaxation and is beneficial for muscular vigor and vitality. It has been known to greatly assist in improving the symptoms of neuro-muscular and musculo-skeletal disorders, improving eyesight, promoting sleep, and skin tone. Shirodhara
Luke warm herbal oil or medicated aromatic decoction is poured in a continuous stream onto the forehead while receiving a gentle forehead massage. Shirodhara rejuvenates and revitalizes the body and mind. This therapy relieves stress and strain-related problems, improves memory, and is known to have a beneficial effect on paralysis and other neurological disorders. Shirodhara ultimately strengthens the physical constitution of the individual.
BENEFITS – It induces a mental state where a person goes into trance. It gives profound relaxation to the mind & body. Mainly used in the treatments for anxiety, depression, hypertension, hyperactivity, insomnia, mental fatigue and neurological disorders.
Kayashekha (Pizhichil)
This therapy is a beautiful combination of two classic Ayurveda treatments, Snehana (oleation) and Swedana (sudation). Here therapists squeeze large quantities of warm medicated oil all over the body with one hand and massaging with the other hand. When administered many times in succession, it is found to alleviate pain and is very invigorating. It has also been proven to be highly effective on its own for treating diseases caused by imbalance in Vata, affecting the muscles.
Indications: Chronic muscle pains, neuromuscular pain, neuropathy, arthritis, rheumatic diseases, gout, skin disorders etc
Kati-basthi
Warm medicated oil is kept over the lower back in a well prepared with herbal paste boundary for 20 to 45 minutes lubricating the lower spinal column. Very effective in the treatment of various type of back pain.
Nasyam
face, shoulders and chest are massaged with specific medicated herbal oil and made to perspire. The medicine in exact dose is measured and poured into the nostrils, while inhaling. After this process, the area around the nose, chest, palms and foot are massaged vigorously. This treatment is highly effective for headaches, sinusitis, migraine and rhinitis.
BENEFITS – It is a very effective treatment in Sinusitis, Allergic Rhinitis (frequent colds), Migraines, Asthma, Mental disorders, Premature greying of hair, weak eye-sight, etc.
Nethra Tharpanam
Well-melted and strained medicated ghee will be collected in a ridge made around the eyes with black gram paste. This is an effective treatment for refractive errors and degenerative diseases of the eyes.
Lepanam
This is a process by which medicated herbal paste is applied on the affected part. This is usually done to reduce swelling, pain or inflammation of the joints. Also used to treat some skin diseases.
Mukha Lepanam
An herbal powder is mixed with cow’s milk and applied on the face. It is kept for one hour and then washed. This is a herbal face pack. This helps to remove wrinkles and black marks, improve the skin tone and imparts a special glow to the face.
Shirolepanam (Thalapothichil)
The head is covered with Amla (Indian gooseberry) paste prepared in buttermilk or some decoctions suitable for the condition. The head is covered with a banana leaf. After 45 minutes the paste is removed and the head is wiped clean. This treatment is very good in the case of hair loss, dandruff, graying, insomnia, low blood pressure (BP) and chronic sinusitis.
Dhanyamla Dhara
(Warm herbal liquid)
Warm herbal liquid is poured all over the body in a rhythmic way through a special vessel for 45 minutes to 1 hour. This treatment is very effective for hemiplegia, paralysis, rheumatic complaints etc.
Podikizhi
A type of massage with cloth bags filled with herbal powder, which will be warmed frequently. Effective for inflammatory joint problems and primary stage of hemiplegia.
Thalam
Special powder mixed with medicated oil applying on the top of the head for 20 to 45 minutes. This treatment is helpful for ENT problems, insomnia, migraine etc.
Sirovasthi
It is yet another efficient treatment method in which oil is retained on the head in a special captied over the forehead. Past experience has proved that this treatment is an excellent remedy for bell’s palsy, headache and various neurological disorders connected with brain. Sirovasthi is performed under the expert guidance of the team of doctors, who supervise the procedure throughout.
Elakizhi
Herbal poultices (bundles) are prepared with various herbs and medicated powders. These poultices are warmed in medicated oils and used to massage the entire body, neck, shoulders, hands and back, shifting the person from side to side. This massage can promote better circulation within the affected area thereby promoting increased perspiration, which helps the skin to eliminate wastes. It also helps to tone the skin and can be superbly relaxing.
Dhanya Kizhi
This is a form of treatment in which powdered cereals and pulses are bundled into a bolus, warmed and applied all over the body. This helps to reduce joint pains in patients with rheumatoid fever. It also helps in weight reduction.
Njavarakizhi
Medicated oil is first applied liberally over the patient’s body. Then the body is massaged with small linen bags filled with cooked Navara rice. The rice is cooked by boiling it in cow’s milk along with suitable. The linen bags filled with rice are dipped in the same mixture kept boiling over a gentle flame and applied by masseurs at a comfortable temperature over the whole body of the patient. Njavarakizhi is a special massage, which rejuvenates the body. It is very effective in degenerative muscle diseases like poliomyelitis muscular atrophy etc. It is more effective when done immediately after Pizhichil treatment.
Avagaha Swedam
After some oil applications, the patient will be seated in a tub full of hot herbal decoction suitable for patient’s condition. For the diseases of spinal cord, hip and lower back. Also helpful in gynecological conditions.
Upanaha Swedam
A poultice containing herbal pastes with some acidic liquids which will be applied on the affected parts and covered with leaves of calotropis, ricinus etc. and on top with cotton cloth. This will be retained on position at least for 12 hours day or night. For inflammatory joint pains which helps to reduce stiffness and improve mobility of the joints.
Vasthi
Certain herbal oils, herbal extracts etc., are applied through the rectum. This treatment is for arthritis, paralysis, hemiplegic, numbness, gastric complaints associated with rheumatism and constant constipation.
Snehapanam
Medicated ghee is given internally in a proportionally increased quantity for a period of 8 to 12 days. This treatment is for osteo arthritis, Psoriaris, leukemia etc.
Aaschyothanam
Application of eye drops. Helpful in conditions like various eye infections, cataract etc.
Putapakam
Herbal juice mixed with goat’s milk is collected around the eyes similarly as in Nethra Tharpanam. Relieves tiredness of the eyes due to Nethra Tharpanam and to clear vision.
Yoni Prakshalanam
Herbal oils and decoctions are applied through the vaginal route. This treatment is good for gynecological disorders. It is also a purification process for genital organs.
Ksheeradhoomam
Steaming the patients face and neck with medicated milk steams. Most important treatment in facial paralysis, diseases of the sense organs etc.
Putapakam
Herbal juice mixed with goat’s milk is collected around the eyes similarly as in Nethra Tharpanam. Relieves tiredness of the eyes due to Nethra Tharpanam and to clear vision.
Gandhoosham
Filling the ear with few drops of medicated oil in ears. This helps to clean the ear and protect from infection.
Kabalam
This therapy requires the retention, movement and gargling of medicated oil or decoction in the mouth. This process is highly beneficial for ear, nose, throat disorders and improving the voice while bringing a glow to the face.
Kizhi
In this treatment, the whole body is made to perspire by the external application of medicated packs in the form of boluses tied in cloth bags. The packs are made up of Rice (Njavarakizhi), herbal powder (Choorna Kizhi), lime (Naaranga Kizhi), seeds (Dhaanya Kizhi) herbal leaves (Elakizhi) the treatment is useful in musculoskeletal disorders, degenerative conditions and neurological problems etc.
Dhoomapanam
This treatment makes the head, respiratory system and sense organs clean and healthy. In this treatment, herbs or herbal powders are burnt in fire and the smoke is inhaled. It is done for a period of one to seven days. Dhoomapanam is an ideal treatment for bronchial asthma, sinusitis, upper and lower respiratory tract infections.
